Launched in 1953, HMY Britannia was the late Queen Elizabeth II’s beloved royal yacht – a serene, sea-going residence used for state visits, royal honeymoons, and quiet family voyages. Famous for its discreet elegance and naval precision, it carried world leaders and dignitaries with unfussy, first-class hospitality. Afternoon tea on the Verandah Deck became a cherished ritual – refined, unhurried, and unmistakably British. Decommissioned in 1997, Britannia now rests in Leith, Edinburgh, preserved as a living piece of royal maritime history.
Inspired by royal tradition and classic ocean liner elegance, our Britannia Afternoon Tea is a leisurely voyage through the best of Britain. Begin with a first-class spread of delicate finger sandwiches: ham & wholegrain mustard mayonnaise, cucumber & cream cheese with dill & mint, Scottish smoked salmon, caviar & pickled cucumber and free-range egg mayonnaise with shallot & watercress.
Follow with: warm plain scones, served with strawberry preserve and Devon clotted cream. Then comes a sweet finale of individual lemon and lime ginger creams, mini Victoria sponges, chocolate biscuit cake (a favourite of Queen Elizabeth II), and dainty ‘jam pennies’ – each designed to pair beautifully with your choice of freshly brewed coffee or a refillable pot of loose-leaf tea. Guests may also enjoy an optional 20cl bottle of white, red or rosé wine.
Your Britannia experience is served on crisp white linen with liner silverware and presented on antique Royal Staffordshire Imari china. Fresh flowers, which you may take home, complete the table setting.
